Meet Your Farmers

Seven years ago, my husband and I took a leap of faith and started Fire Creek Farms to bring fresh, local products to our community. At the time, I was comfortably nestled in the suburbs, working as a teacher and had absolutely no plans of leaving that predictable, cozy life. Sure, I grew up around horses, but real livestock? That was a whole new world for me. And then, I met Jake. I knew right away he was the one—he swept me off my feet, and before I knew it, I was out in the fields, caring for cows on our second date! Little did I know, that first date would be the beginning of a complete life overhaul.

Jake, who’d spent his career helping other farmers, had never owned a farm of his own, but within eight months, we found ourselves buying our very first batch of pigs—a mama sow and 10 feeder pigs. Now, if you’ve ever tried to load pigs onto a trailer, you know it’s like trying to herd a group of hyperactive squirrels that will run right between your legs and knock you over! After getting them loaded, we exchanged glances and said, “What on earth are we doing?” We had experience with cattle, but pigs? That was a whole new ball game!

But that was just the beginning. From there, we added chickens, meat birds, turkeys, and eventually, we moved from just helping a local rancher with his cattle to owning our very own herd. Over time, our small farm grew into something far beyond what we ever imagined. We started growing produce, ran a CSA, attended local farm markets, built a farm store, and even began offering local delivery. We raise pigs, cows, chickens, turkeys, and bees, plus we grow hay, soybeans, corn, edible beans, and wheat—there's never a dull moment!

In the midst of all this growth, we welcomed our first son, Jackson, in June of 2020, followed by Savannah in January of 2022, Evelyn in May of 2023, and James in November of 2024! While Jake has been a full-time farmer since 2020, I took the plunge and left my teaching career in September of 2022 to join him full-time on the farm.

This wild adventure of farming, family, and providing food for our community has been a dream come true. We feel so blessed to raise our children in this beautiful, hands-on environment, and we can’t wait to see them grow up surrounded by nature, hard work, and a love for what they do. Farming isn’t easy, but it’s what we love, and we’re beyond grateful to share this passion with all of you. Join us as we continue to grow, learn, and share our farm’s story!
